LHS GIRLS AND BOYS CREW – FALL 2004

Head Coach: Jennifer Campbell

Athletes: 77

Highlights

This past fall was the most successful season for LHS crew in the history of the team. Beginning with the Textile River Regatta, LHS entered 5 boats, with a total of 37 varsity athletes competing. The girls’ 1st and 2nd varsity eights had their strongest showing ever, placing 4th and 10th out of 21 crews. The boys’ 1st varsity eight placed 8th out of 18 crews. Both the boys’ and girls’ varsity fours placed 10th in their respective races.

The season only got stronger. At the next meet, the New Hampshire Championships, 69 athletes participated. The girls’ 1st varsity eight won a silver medal for the second year in a row, and the second varsity eight, racing in the same race, placed 12th out of 17 boats. The boys’ 1st varsity eight placed 6th, a phenomenal improvement over last year’s last place finish.

The last race of the season, Massachusetts State Championships, was the most successful regatta of the fall for the Lowell Crew! We brought 68 athletes to the competition, and four of the seven LHS boats placed in the top 3! The girls’ novice four won a gold medal, beating the other crew by over six minutes. Both the girls’ and boys’ 1st varsity eights won silver medals, the second year in a row the boys’ varsity has claimed a silver medal. In addition, the boys’ novice four came in 3rd place, the girls’ 1st novice eight came in 4th; and the girls’ and boys’ 2nd varsity eights, the girls’ varsity four, and the girls’ 2nd novice eight all placed well among the “B” boats, with the girls’ 2nd varsity eight placing 3rd among “B” boats.
