Highlights
This past spring was a great season for the crew team. It began with a strong showing at the Lowell Invitational with nine varsity boats winning medals! The boys’ 1st and 3rd varsity eights, 2nd varsity and novice fours all won gold medals. The boys’ varsity double, 2nd varsity eight, and girls’ varsity lightweight eight won silver, and the girls’ 2nd and 3rd varsity eights took home bronze. This was an excellent accomplishment, especially given the size of the regatta. With 23 teams traveling from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, and New Hampshire, and 1000 athletes competing, the Lowell Invitational is one of the largest spring high school regattas in the Northeast.
At the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic Championships in Princeton, NJ, the team fared well, with the boys and girls lightweight eights each placing 5th overall. 35 teams from 13 states competed in this event – all of the LHS boats placed in the top 10 of their respective events.
Lowell hosted the Massachusetts State Championships, which brought together 23 teams and almost 1,000 athletes from across the state. LHS had a successful day, placing 3rd overall, with the boys placing 2nd. Katy Nowoswiat won the state champion title in the girls’ single. Vishnu Gollakota placed 2nd in the boys single. All three boys varsity eights won silver medals, a first time in LHS crew history. Overall it was a fun, successful season!
